Talk:Sun of Zartha
Fiction Wikia, the place where you can write fiction.
I already moved the background material to more appropriate titles (from "The Characters" to "The Sun of Zartha/The Characters", etc.), and now this should be done with each chapter as well. This has at least two advantages. First, it leaves those names open for another novel (I can easily imagine one entitled "The characters"), as the name of the novel is normally the article name. Second, it automatically makes a nifty "<The Sun of Zartha" thing at the top of the page which allows you to jump back to the main novel page.
I admit I am a little disturbed by the attitude of the first author of this work. It is one thing to edit mercilessly the edits that others have made to a work you started. It is another to claim ownership. Is this a wiki or isn't it? I know that Wikia is somewhat different from the Wikimedia projects, but is it *that* different? Of course, that doesn't even start to compare with the author of Kitty Munchies, that says right on the novels list that no one can edit it. Why on earth are you going to put something on a wiki that no one can edit? I did note, however, that the link is red. I would guess that that means I'm not the first to think like this, and perhaps someone else decided it didn't belong here either. Or maybe the author just hasn't gotten around to putting it on here. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 01:39, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I am a little puzzled by your disturbed feelings about my structure of this work. I most certainly do claim a nominal and cursory "ownership" as I was the first to conceive and post it here, but I have read the Wikia terms of service and accept fully the fact that, as a condition of posting on this site, others are free to change and edit any and all aspects of this story as they see fit. If I disagree with the edits, I will re-edit, and others will re-edit in turn if they desire (and/or bring them up on this discussion page), and if I like the changes I will leave them alone after that point, and they will become part of the story. That is the same case with all the other stories on this site, as best as I understand, unless participants are specifically directed to alter copy at will.
I will edit the language of my intro page to seem a little less restrictive.
However, please know that I personally am not interested in making drastic edits to a story conceived, started and written by another unless specifically invited/directed to do so, regardless of such rights being granted by the GNU License and/or the Terms of Service. I feel that once a story is posted, the story represents the complete thoughts and intent of the original author as posted, and I would give the original author first choice to make edits - even though I have every right to make edits myself.
Minor spelling errors and grammatical errors I would feel much more comfortable about changing, especially if they will help the basic flow of the story (I have not yet done this on any Wikia story).
That is the same policy I take with articles on Wikipedia - I am not a scientist, so what business do I have editing articles on quantum physics when such changes will harm the article, even though I technically have the right and the ability to do so? My understanding of the Wikimedia projects is that anyone can post and edit articles and stories - but one should take a responsible attitude as much as possible when doing so, as others will read - and sometimes rely upon - the information presented. Don't just edit to be silly. That serves no one any good.
Also, this story is unfinished and I think I clearly noted which chapters are unfinished, and I have indeed requested others to have at it completely in those cases.--Micmac99 19:53, 5 October 2006 (UTC)--Micmac99 16:03, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh and thanks for clarifying the structure of the titles. I will try to keep that convention going for all chapters.--Micmac99 16:08, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Yea! This is a featured story! Thanks very much for the recognition! Maybe now Will Smith will read it.--Micmac99 05:03, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
