The following are proposed rules for Fiction Wikia.

[edit] Rules

  1. GFDL Copyleft. Any changes you make can be edited, moved, copied, and deleted.
  2. Works that have minimal content should be listed with Template:WfD. After 5 or so days of no/minimal activity - meaning the work has gotten nowhere in 5 or so days - the work will be slated for deletion.
  3. Works that are very short will go to groupings like I hasm bucket o spam or Story ideas.
  4. Outlines, proposals, and meta are to be placed in the author's folder, ie. User:XXX/Outline.
  5. Cover pages (template:Cover) should only be used for works spanning more than one article. Admins may merge short pages of the same work at their discretion.
  6. If you're starting or significantly changing a work, update it on the proper Archives.
  7. No spamming / unfair advertising. No flaming / verbal abuse. No vandalism (patently malicious editing).
  8. No placing copywrited work you don't own.
  9. To maintain site quality, modifying crucial pages (help, main page, and other high profile pages) is done at your own risk.
  10. To keep the peace, heated arguments and edit wars will result in short-term blocking for everyone to cool down.
  11. To keep relevant discussions in one area, petitions and protests should be done on forum pages.

[edit] Discussion

1) GFDL Copyleft. Any changes you make can be edited, moved, copied, and deleted.

GFDL works cannot be copied unless you retain the author history of the works.
This can be retained by stating which authors are responsible for which sections when it is not possible to save the in-wiki edit history.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Only obvious vandalism can be deleted without community discussion.

2) Works that have minimal content should be listed with Template:WfD. After 5 or so days of no/minimal activity - meaning the work has gotten nowhere in 5 or so days - the work will be slated for deletion.

Objection: Rule three (below) is better. What is "minimal content"?
By minimal I mean like 1) work has been removed by author; 2) nearly no writing (maybe <50 words of non-template, non-meta content); 3) lines that aren't vandalism per se but aren't fiction either; 4) author claiming work is under construction but never getting started.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

3) Works that are very short will go to groupings like I hasm bucket o spam, Story ideas or Complete the Stories (under Template:CTE/*).
4) Outlines, proposals, and meta are to should be placed in the author's folder, ie. User:XXX/Outline.

Question: does this apply to "meta pages" such as VirileMail:meta?
I don't agree. Metas and outlines should be in story/meta or story:meta, not in user space. Because the meta is not for the author but for the story. And sometimes stories have several authors. No way, never. David 20:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree with the above, so I changed it a bit.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

5) Cover pages (template:Cover) should only be used for works spanning more than one article. Admins may merge short pages of the same work at their discretion.

Objection: Admins should propose page mergers just like anyone else. There should be a period of time for comments from the community before page merges are made by non-authors.
I agree.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Objection 2: And if the merging is done, the story must be maintained, not stolen, with the copyleft of the original author. David 20:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

6) If you're starting or significantly changing a work, please update it on the proper Archives.

Objection: this can be a guideline. What are you going to to do, ban people who do not update Archives?
Of course not! Yep, just a guideline.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

7) No spamming / unfair advertising. No flaming / verbal abuse. No vandalism (patently malicious editing).
8) No placing copywrited work you don't own.
9) To maintain site quality, modifying crucial pages (help, main page, and other high profile pages) is done at your own risk. major changes to such pages should be proposed and discussed.

Objection: What does this mean? "at your own risk"? Do you intend to ban people who edit these pages? All community participants have an equal right to edit these pages. I think you must mean that major changes to such pages should be proposed and discussed.
I agree.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Objection 2: That is not common policy in Wikia.com. Every page can be changed, even the main page. Also, reverts are also used against vandalism, not fair changes. The writer of this law should review Wikia's policy because he is ignoring facts. If we start changing wikia's policy the next step is to bypass copyleft by deleting a story and recreating it without the history and the authors, as have been done too. David 20:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Huh?

10) To keep the peace, heated arguments and edit wars will result in short-term blocking for everyone to cool down.

Proposed alternative blocking policy: Admins who are involved in "heated arguments" cannot block their opponents. Blocking is a tool for dealing with repeated vandalism.
If an admin is going to block someone, he should block himself too, for EVERYONE (not only non-admins) to cool down. The law is for everyone, some people here do not understand that admins or bureaucrats cannot be kings. David 20:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree. Note that after the last argument I left Novelas for like a month.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Hahaha. You quit a month, I quit FOREVER. I only come here to edit talk pages, I requested all my content to be deleted because I do not want my stories to be in YOUR site, YZH. And yes, I quit because of you, obviously, as MightyErick, WayneRay, JWSchmidt (once) and many others I can imagine. So, don't cry for quitting a month, I think my entire life is more than your month. No? Please don't reply, I won't even bother to read it. David 22:33, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

11) To keep relevant discussions in one area, petitions and protests should be done on forum pages. Links should be made from talk pages to the correct forum pages so that people can find them.

If so, then links should be made from talk pages to the correct forum pages so that people can find them.

[edit] Petition for Rule Change

Put petitions for rule change, and vote for them, below.

The comments are next to each rule. I want to petition another rule change:

Do bureaucracy last forever? A bureaucrat is like the Pope, infallible and until his death? I propose that bureaucrats and admins be rotated, for this to be a real wiki, allowing all users to participate. Bureaucracy must not last forever, overall when there has been so much trouble with him.

  • You can participate on this wiki even without such a rule change. I really don't think this is all that important an issue.    21:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Though you may take my position as administrator, or perhaps the number of administrators may be lowered. I don't think I need to mention it, but with the assiduity problems that'll start again soon, I think it's best for my adminship to be revoked. I'll still be around, but I shouldn't have so much more power than people that will be around more. How do I unadmin myself? Anyone can revoke it for me? --Nonimportant 01:41, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
That'll have to go through a staff member on Central. But why bother.    13:39, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Hey, it's about the principle! But whatever, it's not like I'm whining. If no one of the new users complain, the status quo will stay. --Nonimportant 00:18, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
No. Nonimportant, every bureaucrat can revoke adminship and YZH knows it. I know it because I can grant and revoke adminship on the wikias I am bureaucrat. Nothing to do with Central Wikia. just nonsense. And when I was talking about rotation I was talking about YZH, not you.
...And I quit because YZH reverted my changes to the main page. Other people have quit too, like WayneRay, MightyErick and JWSchmidt once (I am citing without asking him).

Duuuude. Yun's barely coming around anymore, and stopped doing polemical stuff a while ago. I don't think you'll accomplish much just by leaving. How are you supposed to fight against Yun's evil reign of terror while you're away? But still I am shocked, if the no central needed thing is true Yun, do revoke my adminship, you sly bastard. --Nonimportant 17:15, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Hahaha. I just write all those things for fun. I wanted to laugh a little. "Yun's evil reign of terror" sounds cool. And, as I say, I only come to fight his reign. As you say he is not doing polemical stuff, so, maybe he has learned something. If he is calmed, then I won't bother anymore. I am not a troll, although I may seem like one. So, there be peace between YZH and me (anyway, I don't come here, so, I don't have the right to argue in a wikia I don't collaborate).

I apollogize for all I said. David 19:14, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
