[edit] History
Formed under the leadership of rebel John DeFoy in the industrial capital of the Kingdoms, Malaticus, the Order began with thirty men and women signing their lives off in the Orbital Courthouse, a building where many great alliances in the Midworld's history were forged.
The first mission given to the Order by DeFoy had three parts. First was to scout out safe havens about the Kingdom, places far from civilization, where any meetings and/or interaction of the Order could take place in private. The meeting areas were known as Orbitals, in honor of the founding location of the Order. Orbitals were mapped out on documents now known as Gilded Pamphlets, which were distributed about the Order and updated whenever possible.
The second part of the mission detailed infiltration. Each member of the Order was to gain a position in which military, government, or social changes could be detected and analyzed for benefit of the group. These positions ranged from assisstant to the National Security Officer, to Private of the 32nd Armed Battalion, to Bartender at the Rusty Spigot, the information recorded was archived at each of the Orbitals, such as Military Information being archived at Orbital 7-Delta, Social being archived at Beta-9, and so forth.
The final part of the mission detailed armaments. Arms and other weapons and tools of sabotage were to be collected and archived within the Orbitals. The objects collected in the nearly 40 year span of the War ranged from God Mist reserves, Thousands of brands of firearms, various volatile chemicals, millions of explosive devices, and one report filed years later even disclosed an Orbital Armory filled with "finely sharpened sticks and stones."
By CE 13771, the Order consisted of nearly 4,500 individuals. Also by this time, John DeFoy was ready to begin the second phase of his operation. The Order began to utilize its information, locating the possible position of the first major battle of the Egon Wars. Infiltrating the Egon encampment at Boraxis, the Order foiled a major military strike known as Operation: Heavy Fog, which detailed a plan to rain God Mist over multiple high-profile targets, one of which was The Pinnacle, the military headquarters for the Kingdoms. Many similar infiltrations followed.
[edit] Collapse of the Order
Eventually the Order, despite their best defenses against publicity, became more and more renowned by the end of the war. By 13790, the Ego/Baelith Alliance drafted a plan to eliminate the increasing threat of the order. A raid on Orbital Sigma-5 left hundreds of the order dead and gave the Alliance valuable information about the order, such as the location of various orbitals and the name of the elite within the order.
With this information, regular raids on the orbitals began, and meetings were postponed, moved, and often cancelled all together. The Order began to crumble under these assaults, and in late CE 13792 the order took its final blow.
In the small town of Or'Tikal on the Kingdoms/Wasteland border, John DeFoy went to recruit more soldiers to make up for those lost in the recent raid. What he hadn't counted on was the conquest of Or'Tikal five months prior and that it was now an Alliance outpost. Once suspiscions arose that he was a member of the Order, he was gunned down which left him paralyzed and burnt alive. The assassain was an Ego known within their society as Borth. The irony was that the Ego would only learn after the war that the Order member that Borth had tortured was actually their leader.
With the architect of the entire Order killed by the enemy, the Order of the Black Arrow vanished overnight, members fled the nation in terror of vigilante prosecution, and most Orbitals were burnt to the ground in the ensuing chaos.
[edit] Legacy
Past the war, with the conquest of the Five Kingdoms by the Synath Republic, life became far worse than it was under the hardened leadership of the Kingdoms. This tyranny led to rumors of an underground resistance being formed by a "John DeFoy", leading many to believe the former resistance leader truly did survive the war, so many soon joined The Order of the Golden Blade, also founded in the old Orbital Courthouse.
