[edit] Conworld Tenets

Several de facto arguments can be made concerning the building of a constructed world:

  • By default, any species and physical laws are the same as those in the real world, and any histories, places, etc. are different and undefined until filled in.
  • Once an article on a particular topic has been written, it replaces the default concept of the event.
  • Therefore, the newly created articles should not contradict too much with reality. However, it is desirable to make a world not immediately representative of reality, in which case some aspects must be settled upon early on to reduce conflicts later on.
  • Simple is better, so that newcomers will have an easier time joining.
  • However, as the constructed world grows, the amount of data that newcomers need to learn grows. Therefore, we must develop a categorical system for easy referencing, as well as a categorical system that allows newcomers to easily and quickly discern what is the "basics" that should be learned.
  • Newcomers can quickly be daunted by the size of extant conworlds. Therefore, having multiple levels of "basics" may be beneficial in guiding the newcomer on what's going on.
  • We can create a "basic set" of pages that is as small as possible, but conveying enough strategic and tactical information to enable newcomers to contribute effectively to the project.
  • We can create an "expanded set" or even multiple expanded sets of pages in certain topics, such as species, histories, legends, cultures, magical spells, and distant realms.
