N/History/Great Winter

Fiction Wikia, the place where you can write fiction.

The Great Winter was a devastating disaster, causing a thousand-year winter at some time before Eternity's End. The events that transpired were as follows:

A Greybeard, a minion of Zyr0, pondered too deeply into metaphysics and arrived at the conclusion that his wealth would lay in his lands. After asking around for a piece of land from the other creatures across the Midworld, however, he was disappointed, as none of the others granted his wish. He therefore decided to tap into an ancient form of Creomancy (which would only be discovered millennia later by humans) that allowed him to fill what was then an immense lake with sand. This region filled with so much sand that the waters were displaced, but at the same time made the place incapable of supporting life. It was later known, upon discovery by the Humans, as the Great Salt Flat.

However, at the time of casting the greybeard had no idea what would happen with this action. He lost control over his spell and it continued to create such an enormous amount of sand in a very short period of time that he was effectively buried alive within the depths of this magically created sand. It would later be determined at the Divine Court that this event was caused by the powers of the demigod Zyr0, who was so displeased with this action by his minion that he felt the need to punish him with death. The Divine Court, however, felt that the punishment levied on a single Greybeard would not be enough repayment for this great "atrocity" and demanded to be able to punish the Greybeard more, by recalling his soul-aiua from the Outside and placing it in eternal torture.

Zyr0 would not stand for such punishment, which he deemed unfit and undivine, and thus was the sole dissenting vote in the trial. Zamn then asked if Zyr0 would be willing to suffer punishment for his minion. Zyr0 consented, and so was banished Outside for the duration of a millennium.

Now, Zyr0 was Nature's lover, and so was Kaos. The latter now had full reign over the affairs that he so wanted with Nature. However, Nature, having also been effectively banished (but in a different way: she was banished inside the earth, not Outside), felt a bond of understanding form between her and Zyr0. Therefore, Nature ignored Kaos, favoring Zyr0's orderliness instead. For the full thousand years of Zyr0's banishment, Nature yearned for him and this made Kaos very jealous. Thus, Kaos was cold towards Nature for the full 1000 years.
