Kaurus the Vile was an evil sorcerer of unknown origin who lived just after the Ancients disappeared, around the same time as the Chaos of the Gods. He tried to raise the ocean and transform it into land with a form of magical power now known as N/Arcanery/Creomancy (specifically, generating salt in the place so as to create land where there was once sea).

However, Kaurus the Vile died in the process creating this Great Salt Flat, as he did not realize how much sand he had brought Inside in so short a time that the newly created sand became so thick and packed that the swirling sands buried him alive.
