The Stokebadger is, by appearances, an ordinary Badger. However Stokebadgers are an example of a Ricistoke, an apparently normal natural animal with a heart made of solid stone.
While Stokebadgers appear normal, they show supernatural durability and intelligence when fought, the tracking and slaying of a Stokebadger is a great challenge. Stokebadgers are not like Husks, they do not ignore pain completely, they merely seem able to endure greater injury then an ordinary badger before an injury will kill them.
Stokebadgers have no heartbeat, and are believed by hunters to be able to remain still for long periods of time
[edit] Stoke
The stone heart of a Stokebadger (the Stoke) will heal some less-then-mortal wounds if touched against them, though more often then not the heart will not heal them completely, merely it will often stop bleeding and allow the wound to heal by itself over time. Once used used to heal one wound, the stoke will only remain able to heal other wounds for a short time. (so a stoke will likely only be useful for healing one person once)
Through the studies of ancient scribes we know that the older the Stokebadger is the more the heart will heal wounds, though this was taken to no extreme, so it is unknown just how much healing an old Stokebadger heart can do.
The ground heart of a Stokebadger is a deadly poison when taken in quantities as large as a teaspoon, but if taken in very small quantities it is a tonic that will heal some wounds and diseases. Therefore, many colllectors of stokes will grind them into dust before using them, that way they can be used more often, though they only heal minor wounds this way.
