Kupps (named after the way they cup their hands together to drink water; their hands are made for this, long fingered and easily cupped, they appear to be rounded off for just this purpose).
Kupps are the most adaptable creatures, their eyes can adjust to any amount of light, they can breath air or water, in forests they have chameleon skin and their arms are made for climbing quickly and easily, however if the same Kupp later decides to swim in the ocean, he will develop finns over a few days time. Kupps sometimes develop hair when in cold areas, and thus they loose their chameleon skin; though the furr is the color of the most common element (usually snow or ice). Kupps are very fast and very intelligent. They are huminoid shaped, and when they have fur might be mistaken for a monkey by untrained eyes. Though their furr can grow to great lengths likely exceeding that of any monkey or ape.
Kupps are usually very diffacult to find and nearly impossible to capture, they are considered one of the greatests sports by hunters, due to their natural ability to run any distance away in nearly any direct. However, Kupps seem to be unable to develope the ability to live in deserts, as when chased this is the only terrain they attempt to go around, preferring to climb mountains or swim oceans to avoid them. Kupps are not usually hostile, though they probably develop their own personalities, they are believed to live for long periods of time, though there is no way to be sure of this, it is guessed at, as their are only a very few Kupps in the world, and as they are very difficult to see they could easily live next to a human city for hundreds of years before anyone might realize it. Kupps have a natural tendency to hide, but it seems that they are also very curious sometimes, even revealing themselves to creatures who once saw them but did not seem to react badly. However, once a Kupp has had a bad encounter with a human (whitch would include any encounter where the human ran away or yelled or screamed in surprise, maybe even jumping in surprise could be enough for some Kupps) will have a Kupp leaving and traveling great distances so that it would not again encounter that person.
Again, the nature of Kupps makes it very diffacult to be very certain about them, they like hidding, they are easily frightened, and their natural tendency to change to fit the environment makes it impossible to view them for any long time, unless one happens to be lucky enough to have one living nearby. Kupps seem to drink alot of water, though appearing very thin, and sometimes pick fruits or barries, though whether or how they eat has not been determined.
At least one particular Kupp had greatly keen senses, and could detect something or someone coming from far off, and even seemed able to determine who or what was coming minutes before anything could be heard of it.
Due to the diffaculty in studying Kupps, we do not now know how they reproduce, no one can yet tell the difference between male and female Kupps, and no one has seen a young or old Kupp.

[edit] Intelligence
The intelligenceo of Kupps seems impossible to determine, one is tempted to say they are only as intelligent as monkeys or apes at first sight, but the look of their faces and eyes makes one think of them as nearly human after prolonged contact. Kupps seem never to be out of breath, either that or their noses allow them to breath enough as not to have to resort to panting like dogs no matter how much running they do. Kupps are either unable or unwilling to speak vocally or communicate using hand signals, however they seem to understand speech, though this could very well be a mistake, as there is yet not enough proof one way or the other.
[edit] Eating
Kupps seem immune to poisons. Kupps seem also able to live on salt water as easily as more pure water; though they seem to show a preference to water from natural springs then from oceans.
[edit] Kupps in Myth
Due to the mysterious nature of Kupps many cultures have come to fear them, or associate them with other mysterious creatures, such as Liches, Vampires, and Werewolves. Kupps have also come to be associated with owls and demons in some cultures, Kupps are considered to be what happens to humans who follow demons or evil deities; instead Kupps are sometimes thought to be the incarnations of spirits or the workers of owls (who are considered weak and frail, though by some cultures extremely wise and intelligent).
[edit] Habits
As noted above, Kupps are named after the shape of their hands, which are made for drinking water from rivers and streams, Kupps usually stay within a few miles of a river or stream, and though it cannot be determined certainly, it is supposed that as Kupps seem to prefer this water to ocean water that they do not stay at sea for very long, even though they could presumably stay in the ocean forever; and hiding in water might be much easier for them (humans can't really just jump in the water and hope to find them, besides humans wouldn't be able to fight a Kupp in water), but they almost always seem to run to Forests, though when pressed they will go into any terrain other then deserts. Kupps seem to be able to drink huge amounts of water, even though their hands are made for holding and drinking water without loosing any, they still stay by rivers drinking water for hours sometimes; this is in fact the best time to try to find them, though you must remember that it is nearly impossible to sneak up on them without them knowing.
[edit] Numbers
No one can have any idea how many Kupps there are in the world, they likely can dwell anywhere (except, perhaps, in deserts) but have only been seen in a few places; at least that was recorded. Due to their powers of stealth and ability to hide there could be anywhere between ten million Kupps, or one Kupp in the world; as no evidence has been raised that shows that two Kupps have been seen at the same time (as they have only been spotted a handful of times that have been recorded or that have been found, there could be evidence somewhere in some long forgotton tome).
[edit] Types
Previously, there were thought to be several distinct types of Kupps in the world, though after someone saw a Kupp transforming from the chameolonable grey to the furr covered cold Kupp, and vice versa, Kupps were reordered into just one species. Before this discovery there were many different kinds of Kupps, a few of which are recorded below:
- Winter Kupps (lived in cold environments, not neccisarily just during the winter season, they were in fact never encountered during that season, suggesting some sort of hybernation; this is not shared with other types of Kupps and may just be coincidence, these Kupps were only encountered twice.)
- Mountain Kupps
- Sea Kupps
- River Kupps (lived near rivers; a mixture of the Sea and Forest or Mountain Kupps)
- Forest Kupps
- Dark Kupps (lived in caves)
- Night Kupps (which were nocturnal and lived at night)
[edit] Sources
The largest sources of information on Kupps is the woodsman Goodsfield, and Scribe Tenerus, also Valenklair had a most insightful experience with Kupps.
