A lost civilization without a name, generally referred to as the Ancients populated most of our world before the Dawn of Ages. What is left of it can be found virtually everywhere.

Purpose of most objects is unknown. As pointed out by Odranoel, they may have had an advanced, socially and technically based society. Architecture of buildings, which are often found underground are a combination of awe-inspiring art and purposeful technical perfection.

The rune-based language wasn't decoded yet. There are mystics that claim to be able to decode parts of it but are unwilling to share it with others and use the knowledge to their own purposes. Speculations that it was used for powerful magic exist, but rationally reasoning scientists claim it was used mostly for everyday tasks such as recording numbers and messages.

Why the Ancients disappeared is unknown, oral sources speak about "leaving to the stars" and some traditions specificaly name the ships of Toran as a part of this process. Other theories speculate about a natural catastrophe or self-destruction.
