[edit] Loricans

The adjective "Lorican" applies to all things relevant to Lorica.

[edit] Lorican peoples

"Lorican peoples" is by far the greatest implied extension of this term. It refers specifically to the sentient beings living in the Lorican alternate reality.

[edit] High Lorican

High Lorican is one of the first languages devised. It is similar to Latin, though with notable differences.

  • Endings may end in "-um", "-ium", "-or", among others.

High Lorican brings to mind a great "golden age" of civilization without magic--something that many people would long for.

[edit] Priestly Lorican

The Panecclesia was confused by the lack of information pointing to how High Lorican was used--most records had vanished, and the few that remained were in very bad shape. Thus, the Panecclesia reconstructed the language but had various different touches.

Later on, a suitable copy of High Lorican was found--and thus we know that the two languages are in fact different.

[edit] Low Lorican

Low Lorican (English for simplicity's sake) is the common (vernacular) language of Lorica.

[edit] History

Low Lorican has been around ever since High Lorican had disappeared, ie. since the Discovery of Magic and resulting Diabla Magia left society devastated.

[edit] Priestly Lorican

Priestly Lorican is a language used by the Panecclesia as a method of distinquishing certain important ideas from the so-called "ordinary" ideas, which are presented in the vernacular, Low Lorican.

[edit] Words

Sometimes, words are strung up, such as "necromagia", a combination of "necro" (dead) and "magia" (magic). In Low Lorican, this would be "magic of the dead" or "death magic". Priestly Lorican shows prior adjective placement, going before the main term (in this case "magic").

Words often end in "-a".

Priestly Lorican distinquishes particular standard instances of spells with an "ae" ending. For example, the "lorica" protection spell would become "loricae".

[edit] Etymology

Priestly Lorican is based off of an incorrect interpretation of High Lorican, which nearly disappeared with the Coming of the Dragons.
