[edit] Chaos of the Gods Prologue
- In the beginning, there were two universes: the Asset and the Tessa, conjoined in parallel along their entire planar fabric by the transplanar tapestry, the Ravelling. These two universes were diametrically opposed, and time along these two universes went in chronologically opposite directions, farther and farther apart, at the same speed. Various other natural laws, such as the law of entropy, were also opposites across the two worlds. In the middle, the Ravelling was still, time was still, and space stood still, and so it was effectively only one point, that provided a way to go through the two universes. (Now, this may be particularly confusing, but after all that's why it's called "arcane".)
- The closer the two universes are to each other, the more readily actions could take place across the ravelling to simultaneously influence the universes. Either the two universes stay put in their location relative to each other, or they move away from the center (the Ravelling), or they move toward the center, simultaneously, in order to keep the balance. Hence, magical actions can be periodically made stronger or weaker, by bringing the two universes closer together or farther apart. And this of course required the use of magic as well.
- Now, when the universes were first created, they overlapped, providing the unique opportunity for the formation of a deity of All, known as All. But as time went by, the two universes drifted apart, and All split into two equal but opposite halves, Vayria in the Asset and Lamoth in the Tessa. On each side, the opposite side seemed the opposite of what it stood for. To an observer in the Asset, Vayria was purity, production; but Lamoth was corruptness, destruction. To an observer in the Tessa, Vayria was corruptness, destruction; but Lamoth was purity; production.
- At this point the two universes had only begun to drift apart, and the two new deities knew of each other, and threw a tremendous amount of energy at each other, at the same time, and these energies swirled together to form the third deity, Zamn. Zamn was known as an Archon because it was the merger of two other deities (at least partially). Zamn resided in the Ravelling, being born there by the two energetic forces, and from that critical point was in a unique position to establish balance. And thus, Zamn became known, on both Tessa and Asset, as the deity of balance and neutrality.
- The Asset consisted of atoms, from which the objects we know of today could be made. The Tessa consisted of also-tinystars, which provide the driving force for magic. The Tessa is, for all practical purposes, uninhabitable by minions of the Asset, and vice versa. from which Over the course of an era, the Asset and Tessa gradually formed their own versions of a standard. For the Asset, this took the form of the planet of Lorica. For the Tessa, this also formed an orb, but of a different material which we shall not attempt to describe here.
