Dear Diary,

There has been a lot of buzz going around about our land’s tie to possibly breaking. It all started when Napoleon Bonaparte had apparently invaded . A group called the Creoles organized a town meeting in was today and our President-Governor was questioned and forced to resign! For now I believe that the representatives are taking over the governing of our colony. I’m quite happy about this along with the rest of my family and people. I am expecting to be a lot of change in our administration after this meeting.

Dear Diary,

The past years of our land running its government by our representatives have been interesting. The viceroy of wanted the monarchy to govern our colony once again instead of our representatives. A colonel who was part of the group of representatives has come out of the crowd and after being a general, he is now the governor of the

Dear Diary,

The latest news that everyone seems to be talking about is the battle that had just occurred in Rancagua. Ever since splitting the tie between Chile and Spain, I think Spain has been anxious to gain control over us again. A battle had occurred during the past few days over this issue. Spain has now reestablished its military supremacy over us. A man named José Miguel Carrera is being talked about a lot amongst my friends and family and is said to have been contributing to the cause of this conflict. I just wish Spain would let us be. Since before the battle, life here in Chile was running so smoothly. Examples are the fact that trade restrictions are as enforced as they were before, as well as education being promoted. I’m hoping that we are going to live in peace again soon.

Sincerely,

Carmia Boliara

They have been punishing anyone they suspect of being a rebel. The want to become independent has been increasing among everyone. The wealthier people are also discovering the need to become independent. O’Higgins and some of our people, including a few of my acquaintances, have run away to . My wish for peace doesn’t appear to be coming true anytime soon.

We are free. We are free of ’s power over us. San Martin’s army defeated the last of the Spaniards at the Battle of Maipú. O’Higgins has been elected as supreme director of . Everyone has been talking about the navy he has been organizing to fight against in the future. He has made our home a peaceful place to be, and we have no longer had to fear for the return of the domination of the Spaniards.
